Brisbane Professional College is located in the State of Queensland’s Capital City of Brisbane. Brisbane is a multiculturally diverse City with a population of approximately 2.3 million people.

Brisbane is a vibrant City with a plethora of restaurants, cafes and bars with a range of multicultural themes and cuisines. Being the State’s Capital, Brisbane is the commercial hub of Queensland and is conveniently located to the major tourist attractions of the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. The beaches at the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are renowned worldwide for their golden sand and clear blue water providing a fantastic day trip or weekend away from the City life. Brisbane is well connected with the world with the Brisbane International Airport located within 15km of the central business district and connected with a dedicated airport train link and ground transportation comprising taxis and buses.

At the most recent Census, Australia’s population was recorded as 23 million people comprising a broad cultural mix of over 200 cultures speaking more than 280 languages. Indicative Living Costs

Living costs may vary according to your lifestyle. The Department of Home Affairs provides an indicative annual living cost of approximately AUD$21,000 for a student. An additional AUD$7100 for a partner and AUD$3040 for a child. These costs are subjected to change and you should refer to the Department of Home Affairs website for the latest information.

Accommodation Options

There is a wide range of student accommodation options available to international students in Queensland. Some accommodation options may require a security bond. The security bond is generally 4 weeks rent which is refundable at the conclusion of the lease assumming that the accommodation is vacated in the same condition as it was at the beginning of the lease and there is no outstanding rental payments. Some of the accommodation options include:

  • Homestay, a popular type of accommodation. Students live with Australian families who provide a furnished room and up to three meals a day. Costs can vary, but are generally around AUD$200-AUD$260 a week, with a one-off placement fee of approximately AUD$195 - AUD$210.
  • Rental accommodation. Price will vary depending on the type, standard and location of the property. As a guide, a two-bedroom apartment could cost between AUD$300 and AUD$400 per week, and a three-bedroom house could cost between AUD$350 to AUD$A500 per week.
  • Shared accommodation with other students, a popular option because it reduces living expenses and fosters a supportive environment. The price for accommodation varies on the type, standard and location. The cost of renting a room varies depending on the location and length of stay, but is generally between AUD$100 to AUD$220 per week.

Work in Brisbane

As an International Student, your primary focus is the successful completion of your Qualification with BPC. Your study visa will allow you to work limited hours.

Please ensure you are familiar with the conditions of your visa so that you do not jeopardise your studies in Australia.

If you wish to seek part time work and you are confident it will not interfere with your studies, a BPC representative will be able to assist you with finding work to suit your College timetable and within the area of expertise of the qualification that you are studying.
